The images on this page were captured by a still camera mounted on a movable platform and suspended from a tethered mini-blimp (pictured at left). A video camera is piggy-backed to the view finder of the still camera. By adjusting servo motors which control the camera platform's position, and thus the lens’ line of sight, the operator on the ground can frame the desired image based on the view displayed on a portable video monitor. Once an image is properly composed the still camera's shutter is released and the blimp is repositioned for the next shot.

The mini-blimp can be operated at any altitude between 10 and 500 feet. We have produced remarkable prints of backyard pools and decks which are unfeasible if not absolutely unobtainable through any other known method.

The mini-blimp is transported to a photo site fully inflated inside of an enclosed trailer. Once the trailer is parked (into the wind) the blimp is pulled out and the camera and tether cable are attached. Then as the tether cable is released (slowly at first) from a 600 foot spool, the blimp silently rises to whatever altitude is needed.

As the mini-blimp ascends in a residential area, the neighborhood dogs invariably begin to bark. This usually brings at least one child to a window who in turn brings mom, dad and grandpa outside to inquire as to the nature of this wonderful curiosity. It is quite a spectacle. We have experienced this same scenario many times.
